Gameplay Features
Academy World
Similar to the Item World, the Academy World is a randomly created dungeon. Rather than going into an item to improve its stats, the Academy World is designed to improve individual stats on a character, such as Attack, Defense, etc. Each stat contains a 10 floor dungeon, and it is not possible to leave the Academy World midway through, like it is with a Mr. Gency’s Exit in the Item World. To enter an Academy World, talk to the Afro Prinny next to the Item World thief.
Geoblocks
The pyramid geosymbols of Disgaea 1 and 2 have been replaced by Geoblocks in Disgaea 3. Here are some points about Geoblocks:
- Geoblocks are stackable
- If geoblocks of like colors are adjacent, and one is destroyed, they cause a chain reaction destroying all adjacent blocks of the same color.
- As with Disgaea 1 and 2, Geoblocks sitting on a geopanel will give special effects to all geopanels of the same color.
Geoblock Effects (Just a sample of some of the effects in the game)
- ダメージ20% (Damage 20%)
- レベル4弱体化 (Level 4 jakutaika (weaken)) - I think this decreases the players level by 4 when they’re standing on an affected geopanel
- レベル7強化 (Level 7 kyouka (strengthen)) - Same as the last effect, only increases by 7 levels
- HP・SP反転 (HP - SP damage switched) - SP or Magic Power is lost instead of health when attacked normally.
Demon Change / 魔チェンジ
New to Disgaea 3 is thing called Demon Change (魔チェンジ, Machenji). Demon Change is when a monster class ally changes into a weapon for use by a human character. Here are some examples of Demon Change, deduced from the recent screenshots at the GPara website.
- Mothman >> Bow Weapon - Allows for the special skill Mothman Dark Cutter
- Mushroom >> Spear Weapon - Equipping weapon gives 20% Health Regen every turn, and allows for the special skill Piston Pierce
- Saber Kitty >> Fist Weapon - Allows for the special skill Screw Claw, and allows the user to attack twice.
- Shinigami >> Staff Weapon - Allows for special skill Nightmare Gate
- Succubus >> Spear Weapon - Allows for special skill Spiral Heart
Human-Monster Combination Attacks. Some monsters and humans can work together to perform special attacks.
- Archer + Holy Dragon = Centaur Arrow
- Mao + Holy Dragon = Cold Work Bow

The bust size comparison in the magazine article is pretty funny. In all seriousness though, it doesn’t look like Disgaea has evolved very much considering this is now the third game. Grind, grind, and more grinding. Hours of fun…
These main heroines seem to be getting younger and younger. Gotta cater to the audience after all… Cough, cough, wink, wink.

Seems nice, and once again Japanese games have made me wish I had a PS3. I’ll just make do with my Xbox. *Gloom*

I seriously look forward to this game… even though I have yet to play the first one (which I bought for PS2 AND PSP!) and haven’t bought the 2nd one. I’m such a sucker for SRPGs with good art. I’ll get to it eventually…
I saw the game trailer for it on PSN, and it’s so over the top and hilarious!

Is Disgeae really that fun to play? I never played the first two installments of the series, thus I’ve no idea bout the game and its mechanics. Besides, I’m not very fond of this kind of rpg which requires the characters to move square by square. Therefore, I’m getting myself DMC4 which is going to be release on the same time. Btw, I haven had the chance to add you guys in the PSN since I don’t much game with me. Worse, I only have two title (Ninja Gaiden & NFS: Carbon) in my library. (T~T)

I think game like Disgaea is either love it or hate it.
I like this kind of game (JSRPG game) a lot (as you can see from my posts about agarest senki, similar genre game ^^)

I’ll be waiting for rpg such as Final Fantasy XIII, Last Remnant and White Knight Story. These three seems to be very interesting. Any interesting rpg going to release on PS3 besides the games we mentioned?
January 20, 2008 at 7:28 pm
hmm, so far the JRPGs for PS3 that I know are:
released:
Enchanted Arms (RPG)
Mist of Chaos (SRPG)
FolkLore (ARPG)
Agarest Senki (SRPG)
unreleased:
Disgaea 3 (SRPG)
Tears to Tiara (SRPG)
Trusty Bell / Eternal Sonata (RPG)
Senjou no Valkyrie (SRPG)
Shiro kishi / White Knight (RPG)
Last Remnant (RPG)
FF13 (RPG)
Star Ocean 4 (RPG)
The only released PS3 RPG that I haven’t played is Mist of Chaos (not going to buy it as well.. very low score from famitsu). I’ve finished the other 3.

With so many interesting title releasing this year, I’ll have to find a way to save enough money to buy them. Too bad that Malaysia doesn’t have shop like Blockbuster which rents video game. It would definitely save me and the rest a lot of money. (^^;”)

OH goodness~! When is the English version coming out? I hate having to put down the controller and then punch a few keys on my dictionary to decipher the dialogues LOL. And I still owe you my PS3 friend list to add! Will do so after I’ve moved. PS3 now back in da box. LOL

If anything will make me buy a PS3, this is it.
I hope they keep the Japanese voice in the English version (so far they’ve done it for all the Disgaea games…), or I’m going to be very, VERY pissed at missing out on a Chiwa Saito loli role.
